Tim Triplett, 36
General Manager
Cracker Barrel, Memphis, TN

I met my wife at Cracker Barrel.

Her name is Johnnie and she's a natural beauty with a smile that would melt your heart. She used to come in all the time - with friends, by herself, sometimes for take-out. Getting to know my guests is one of the things I love best about this job, but with Johnnie my outgoing nature seemed to desert me. Heck, I was just plain shy.

Fortunately, I have a great team and we all look out for each other. Every time Johnnie came into the restaurant, my employees would say "my manager is really crazy about you." Eventually, she got tired of waiting for me to make the first move. One night she gave me her number and suggested we go out. Trying not to look too excited, I waited two days before calling.

Four months later we were married.

As a manager at Cracker Barrel, that's the best thing that's ever happened to me. But I've got to say, the rest of the job is a good thing, too. I came here three years ago from a corporate job at another restaurant chain. I was tired of being stuck in a cubicle interacting with a computer all day and wanted to get back in a busy restaurant, on the floor, working with people. I looked all over and no company offered anything like the growth potential and opportunity of Cracker Barrel.

My store is a bit different than most. We're in a community, not on a highway. So most of our guests are local people. It's a great opportunity, because if you do well they'll come back again and again. Same thing with staff. Our standards are very high and employees like that. So we get a lot of good hires from employee referrals.

Of course in a very local market the opposite is true. If you let your guests or your staff down, you're going to hear about it. But so far, we're doing well. This is one of the most successful Cracker Barrels anywhere and I intend to keep it that way.
